![]() ![]() I don’t mean to interrupt their discussion and they look pretty engrossed in what they are talking about. “Goldie, can you help me stretch?” I call to her across the room where she seems to be conversing with one of the children’s parents. The plan is that I’ll take half of the class for an hour and they will take the other half, we will show them some respective moves, and then well switch off and bring them together at the end. I can feel it by just being in the same vicinity.Įventually, it gets to the point where we have to start warming up. The twins however, are standing next to me nodding along with her and offering the students smiles of encouragement. She quickly loses me with her conversation because she talks too fast for me to latch onto any of her words and decipher them. She starts explaining what is going to be happening over the next couple of months and how things are going to work. I know how to tell them what my name is of course, but I let Goldie do what she does best which is talk. Goldie points towards me and introduces me to the class. The twin’s first language is French so I guess that makes their arrogant asses a little bit useful. It would be a hassle trying to teach them dance if I can’t even communicate with them efficiently. They definitely cannot speak it fluently. These kids are not very familiar with English. I now realize why it was probably essential to bring along some additional teachers. “Nous sommes des jumeaux.” (We are twins) “Je m'appelle Laurent.” (My name is Laurent) He offers the crowd a silly smile before hitching his shoulders and stating the obvious. “Ceci est mon frère.” (This is my brother) I must admit that it is intriguing to watch them interact with each other. They are awed to see identical twins standing directly in front of them. I see the children looking back and forth between the two giants with wide eyes. There’s a warmth radiating from within him now that was not there when he was introduced to me. ![]() “Je suis Larry.” (I’m Larry) I am surprised to hear Larry take the lead this time. “J'ai quelques amis je veux que vous rencontrez.” (I have some friends I want you to meet.) The fact that these young people are here because they want to be and not because they have to be is inspiring. I can’t remember ever being excited to dance when I was a kid. ![]() I feel a youthful energy flowing throughout the room and it makes me smile. She leads us to stand in front of the large mirrors that face the kids so that we can tell them our names. “Bonjour tout le monde!” (Hello everybody!) Goldie is naturally the first person to speak. They are all eager and awaiting when Goldie walks me and the twins into the room. The group of kids that Goldie introduces us to are the younger ones. There is a class for people in elementary, a class for people in junior high, and a class for people in senior high. It’s much like the way school systems work. Goldie tells me that there are about thirty kids in each class. ![]()
